George William Palmer, 96, of Glastonbury, beloved husband of Susan (Buggie) Palmer, passed away on Tuesday, May 24th after a long illness. Born in Mamaroneck, NY, he was the son of the late George W. and Mary (Cernorsey) Palmer.
George was the founder and president of Palmer Sheet Metal in Windsor, a fifty plus year member of Silas Deanne Lodge #147 A.F. & A.M., and active in and a past potentate of the Sphinx A.A.O.N.M.S. Shriners of Newington.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his son, David W. Palmer of Glastonbury; his daughter, Linda P. Melia of Portland; a sister, Anne Buttrick of Torrington; two grandchildren, Kenneth Thoren and Dayle Cooper and two great grandsons. George was a much loved brother-in-law to Sharon and Dick Zajack of Cromwell, Barbara and Drick Fountain of Cromwell, Pat Grieb of Portland, Marie and Bill Buggie of Portland; and a favorite uncle to several nieces and nephews.
He was also predeceased by his first wife, Margaret (DuPlessis) Palmer and his sister, Frances Palmer.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 4th at 11:00am at the First Congregational Church, 355 Main Street, Cromwell with The Rev. Douglas G. J. VanVeldhuisen officiating. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Friends may call on Saturday morning at the church from 10:00 to 11:00am and in lieu of flowers, may make donations in George's memory to Shriner Children's Hospital, 51 Blossom Street, Boston, MA 02114 or Alzheimer Association CT Chapter, 2075 Silas Deane Highway, Suite 100, Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
