Alice Gertrude (Rau) Spenard, 85, of Middletown, wife of the late Ernest F. Spenard, Sr. passed away on Wednesday, February 3rd at Middlesex Hospital. Born in Middletown, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Anna (Larson) Rau.
Alice lived in Middletown all of her life and was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Middletown. She worked for the Russell Company where she met her husband and shortly after left the company to raise her children. Alice was a strong willed woman who gave of herself to everyone, loved her dogs and playing Bingo. Her family was her life and that showed through her devotion.
Alice is survived by three daughters; Shirley A. Read, Barbara L. Borrelli and her husband, Stephen, and Betty L. Foss and her husband, John, all of Middletown, nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her son, Ernest F. Spenard, Jr.; a brother, Thomas Rau, Jr. and four sisters, Lillian Goodwin, Ruth Rau, Shirley Esposito, and Dorothy Charbonnier.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 9th at 11:00am at Christ Lutheran Church, 300 Washington Street, Middletown with the Rev. Joel S. Neubauer officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Middletown.
Friends may call on Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00pm at the Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church Street, Middletown and in lieu of flowers, may make donations in Alice's memory to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492 or the Christ Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 300 Washington Street, Middletown, CT 06457.
