Sueelyn Goodale Elkins

Sueelyn (Goodale) Elkins, 72, of East Haddam, beloved wife of James E. Elkins for thirty-seven years, passed away on February 4, 2017 at Apple Rehab in Colchester. Born in Middletown, she was the daughter of the late Willis and Julia (Wickham) Goodale.

Sue spent her early years in Florida and after moving to Connecticut graduated Woodrow Wilson High School. She spent eighteen years at Connecticut Valley Hospital doing daily patient care, before retiring. She owned and operated the "House of Calico" in East Haddam, which was an antique, and fabric store where she catered to the needs of the general public. This gave her the opportunity to establish many new friends. Sue enjoyed designing and making quilts for family, friends, and her store. She also loved decorating her home inside and out for all seasons and keeping a beautiful yard and gardens where she loved to pick her flowers.

Sue had a strong passion for animals surrounding herself with horses, goats, donkeys, dogs, cats and parrots. She cared for them, as much as she cared about life and if permitted they would have lived in the house.

Sue was never a demanding person, she was God fearing and very full of life, feisty and engaged in everything she did and was a very strong and devoted family person who enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Along with her husband, Sue is survived by two sons, Joseph P. Boccaccio and his wife, Laurie of Moodus and Chad E. Elkins of Mobile, AL a daughter, Shannon L. Martin and her husband, Joe of Theodore, AL; two grandchildren, Taylor Davis and Nick Boccaccio and her sister, Margarete E. Ganson.

DUE TO WEATHER, SERVICE DATE HAS BEEN CHANGED. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 11th at 5:00 pm at First Church of Christ, 499 Town Street, East Haddam. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sueelyn's memory may be made to American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, P.O. Box 96929, Washington, DC 20077-7127. To share memories or send condolences to the family, please visit www.doolittlefuneralservice.com.
